Next Monday, July 27th, Patti, Keaton and I depart on a 12-day journey to Taiwan. This past Sunday, our grandson, Kai William Oakland was born. Our daughter-in-law Rachel, son Graham and baby Kai are doing well. Needless to say, we can’t wait to see them!
Over the next few weeks I will attempt to blog our adventure back to you and share a bit of our journey.
In preparation, I am learning quite a bit about the island of Taiwan and the city of Kaohsiung where we will be staying. Two interesting facts I stumbled upon: 1. The 2009 World Games are being held in Kaohsiung this year. The games feature sports that are not contested in the Olympic Games. Unfortunately they will have wrapped up just when we arrive… now that could have been fun! And, 2. The Diocese of Taiwan is a member of the Episcopal Church (ECUSA). I have sent e-mails to a couple of local clergy in the hope of sharing and learning about our common ministry. This will be a working vacation after all!
Now the hard part… what to pack? Take care and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Kevin
