At St. Andrew’s, we offer a safe and joyful learning environment for children of all ages. Sunday School classes begin at 9:45 a.m. most Sundays, and are usually dismissed about 10:30, when students join the congregation in the church to share the Eucharist. Our teachers appreciate it when children arrive promptly at 9:45, so that the class can begin on time and make the most of their time together.
Infants to age 2, our youngest members and visitors, are welcome to stay with their parents in the church. When nursery care is desired, our caring volunteers in the Nursery provide childcare for infants through age 2 during the 10am service.
Preschoolers (3 years and up) through 1st graders will be learning some of our core faith stories using the Godly Play approach to Biblical storytelling, which uses story props to help young children visualize the story as well as hear it. In our pre-K and K-1 classrooms, our classroom activities will integrate art, music, and service as part of our faith exploration.
Second through fifth graders will deepen their knowledge of the Bible and of our Episcopal traditions, in our 2nd – 3rd grade and 4th –5th grade classes, which will be using the “Seasons of the Spirit” curriculum. We will explore some central stories from the Old Testament in the autumn, then starting in Advent we will follow the Sunday lectionary and learn about the same texts that parents are hearing in church. We’ll share discussions, projects, service, and fun!
Sixth through eighth graders are invited to join the “PIT Crew,” our youth Sunday school class. The PIT Crew will work with the lectionary Bible texts for each Sunday, with an emphasis on where our faith and tradition intersect with our daily lives and current events. See our “Youth Programs” page to learn more.
9th through 12th graders are invited to join the congregation for the worship service and educational offerings. We can use your help, too, as acolytes, nursery attendants, readers, and in other roles. Let us know what you’d like to do, and we’ll find a spot for you!
Sixth through twelfth graders are welcome to participate in the St. Andrew’s Youth Group, which meets on alternate Sunday evenings. We share meals (provided by parents), games, projects, and prayers. We’ve been upgrading our wonderful youth room this summer to serve us better, and we have several outings and trips planned this year. Come try it out! See our “Youth Programs” page to learn more.
Confirmation Class meets periodically to prepare youth for confirmation in May of 2010. Contact the Rev. Kevin Nichols at rectorst (dot) andrews (at) comcast (dot) net, or (603) 746-3415, to learn more.
