September Offerings:

Sunday Evening Outreach Series #1 – September 27th at 6:00-8:30pm in the Great Hall. Join us for a light Sunday night supper as we view and discuss the first of five documentaries from the acclaimed PBS history series, We Shall Remain: America Through Native Eyes. Spanning almost four hundred years these films “tell the story of pivotal moments in U. S. history from the Native American perspective, upending two-dimensional stereotypes of American Indians as simply ferocious warriors or peaceable lovers of the land.”  This summer’s 76th General Convention asked all of us to continue the Episcopal Church’s mission of living out our baptismal covenant vow to “strive for justice and peace” by studying the often difficult relationship between the Episcopal Church and native people of the United States.

“We recognize that there are painful aspects of the history – such as the Episcopal residential schools – that we are called to understand.  .  .  It is our hope that such exploration will lead us to “deeper knowledge of our past and our relationship together as brothers and sisters in Christ and members of God’s household today.” — Episcopal Life May 2009

Men’s Faith Sharing – Monday, September 28th at 7:00pm in the Library. Have you ever wished that you had a place to share life’s struggles and joys?  Do you long to develop a deeper relationship with God through prayer?  If so, join us!  Our intent is simply to build a trusted community where we can laugh, pray and share our life’s journey.  Sound scary?  Come anyway! Future meetings: forth Monday of the month or another date to be determined by participants.

Coming in October:

Early Christian Images – Begins Sunday October 11th at 9:00am. Did you ever wonder where some of our favorite images of worship came from? Like the shepherd with the sheep on his shoulders. Jesus with his recovered lamb right? Wrong. It was the Roman symbol for philanthropy, as a civic virtue.  Find out about the birth of imagery that we appreciate today in our worship, in the imagination, and in our emotional life with God. How did a religion that prohibited graven images et cetera develop such a rich visual tradition? Ignite your own imagination by the questions and process of research shared by Barbara Filleul.  Future meetings: October 18th& 25.

“Christian Leadership: a Shared Journey” – begins Wednesday, October 14th at 7:00pm. This monthly gathering is an opportunity for participants to discover and share the narratives that impact their professional, personal and spiritual lives.  We begin with the premise that leadership, for those of us who call ourselves Christians, involves the great challenge of knowing our own unique story in light of the gospel story.  By engaging in personal reflection, selected readings, prayer and spiritual exercises we will embrace our own stories of “success and failure” and discern together where God might be calling us to share our unique gifts and talents.    Future meeting dates: (second Wednesdays) Nov 11, Dec 9, Jan 13, Feb 10, Mar 10 & Apr 14.

“Spirituality of Parenting” – begins Tuesday, October 20th at 7:00pm. The Spirituality of Parenting series is a monthly conversation for parents of all ages and stages, sharing the challenges and gifts of faithful parenting and exploring topics like prayer, faith practices in our homes, values, faith development, and how to walk more deeply into our own faith as we share faith with our children. Future meeting dates (usually, third Tuesdays): Oct 20, Nov 17, Dec 8, Jan 19, Feb 16, Mar 16, April 20, May 18. See link for “Spirituality of Parenting” series to learn more.
